#PatiOasis

Ever since my boyfriend moved into his apartment, I have really loved how spacious his balcony is. Its also very private with a pretty nice view, so, I thought it would be awesome to transform it into a nice getaway spot. Secretly, it was for my benefit, but, I wanted the decor to be pretty neutral that way he could enjoy it too. I posted pics of the finished product to my social media pages and everyone seemed to love how it turned out.
I saw on Pinterest, an idea for a DIY daybed/bench made out of palettes and fell in love. It was definitely a challenge, but, both Darrol & I really enjoy DIY projects, so, we were up for it. We found raw palettes on Craigslist that were selling for $3 a piece in our area, which was an awesome deal.

After purchasing the palettes, I knew I wanted to go for a darker stain on the wood to keep the tone of the decor cool, so, I purchased some stain from Home Depot, sandpaper, brushes and a drop cloth & got to work.

Darrol ended up sawing down half of the palette that we used for the backrest and screwed it into the base of the bench to keep it stable & voila! We found seat cushions prior to purchasing the palettes and luckily they fit them perfectly.

For the balcony, I wanted something with a fun feel, so, I knew I wanted to incorporate lots of patterns and pops of color.

There you have it. I plan on enjoying lots of summer nights out here with the dogs, some cool drinks and a little music. I love relaxing outside even in the TX heat, i'm so grateful that there's plenty of shade to go around. Hopefully you guys enjoyed the patio tour, let me know what you think in the comments.

Hair Goals + Length Check

Hey friends! It's been a while. I don't quite have a routine with my posts, only because I don't want to make any promises I can't keep, but, I haven't forgotten about my dear blog-readers. Thanks for being patient, hopefully soon we can officially start a scheduled post day so you guys don't miss anything.
Anyway, May 3, 2015 made 4 years since a relaxer has touched my hair and 3 years since I cut off all of my relaxed hair ("big chopped"-- or bc). I am sooo happy to have made it this far. Who would've thought that me, the girl who had been relaxed since about 7 years old would "go natural"? Well the journey has been rough, but, even with all the ups and downs I wouldn't change my decision for the world.

I will go more into my natural hair journey, products, regiment, etc. in another post, but, as I reflect on these last three years, I feel sort of underwhelmed at the growth of my natural hair. I definitely expected to have longer hair than I do now come year three. I know that the past year or two I haven't treated my hair the best and quite frankly I got lazy with truly caring for my hair. I haven't been washing it as often, I haven't been covering it when I sleep and I pretty much resorted to wear my signature "puff" style, 24/7. That's all going to change!
This year, I will focus on health but also length retention. I know my hair is growing, but I want to focus on retaining the length. This means more washing, less manipulating, more moisturizing, more trimming, more stretching and more protective styling. I have found a few product staples that have helped me to keep my hair super moisturized in the last two months and I've already trimmed twice this year.

Length-wise, i'd like to be at least APL (armpit length) by next May.
I'd like to hear from you guys in the comments! I'm so excited to bring you all along on this journey to healthy, LONG natural hair. Let me know if you're natural. If so, how long have you been growing your natural hair? I hope you guys have a great week! :)

Girl's Night In

Everyone who knows me knows that I am not huge on going out to clubs or parties for many reasons, but, what I am here for is a good girl's night in. That's exactly what took place this past Friday and I had the pleasure of hosting it. I had so many ideas in mind (some which didn't come through, this time) and I couldn't wait.

After getting off of work at 7am on Friday, I spent the day cleaning and shopping to get ready for a sleepover at my place with the girls. We stayed up super late laughing, talking and of course, eating and playing some of my favorite board games including Scattergories which got a little heated.

After everyone ate, we played the infamous Bean Boozled Challenge using the Jelly Belly Bean Boozled jelly beans and I recorded it, just for you guys! (Warning: pretty vulgar language, sorry)

When the girls woke up Saturday morning, I had a special breakfast set up for them: a Waffle Bar! What you will learn about me is that I'm a pinterest Queen and when I saw this cute idea, I knew I had to do it and it came out so cute, the ladies loved it.

I'm so glad everyone ended up having a great time and before everyone left I made sure everyone hit the "photobooth" to take a quick and fun photo for memories sake.

Hope all of you had a great weekend, as well. What did you do, this past weekend? Make sure you leave a comment below.
